How Much Does AMBOSS Cost? Every Plan, October 2026

AMBOSS costs $19.99 a month for student membership, or $12.50 a month billed yearly as of October 2026. Both tiers include the library and only 50 Qbank questions a month. Unlimited Qbank comes in a $448 yearly bundle. Student Life, which runs through the end of PGY-1, is $1,199.

UK students pay those same US dollar prices, because AMBOSS publishes no pound pricing. Its UK pricing URLs return a 404 as of 20 October 2026.

This page covers every plan, the 50 question cap, the 5 day trial and 30 day refund terms, and who should pay.

Disclosure: Diagnosica is an AI clinical simulator for medical students and junior doctors, not a question bank, so it has a stake in study tool decisions. Every AMBOSS price here comes from AMBOSS's own public pages, checked on 20 October 2026.

How much does AMBOSS cost?

AMBOSS costs $19.99 a month billed monthly, or $12.50 a month billed yearly, for students as of October 2026. Those are membership prices only. The exam-prep Qbank upgrade is separate and sold as a bundle if you need full question access. All figures are listed in US dollars, even for UK students.

That membership buys unlimited library access, the page counts 1,400+ articles, plus 50 Qbank questions a month. See the breakdown on AMBOSS's US pricing page.

The yearly line says you save $89.88 versus paying $19.99 for 12 months, which totals $239.88. That implies about $150 up front for the year. The page doesn’t print a yearly total, it’s arithmetic on its own figures.

If you’re prepping for exams, the Qbank bundle at $448 billed yearly is the option many consider, tagged Most Popular on the page. It includes unlimited Qbank access alongside the membership.

Every AMBOSS plan as of October 2026

AMBOSS pricing has four student options and a separate clinician plan, all shown in US dollars on its own pages and checked on 20 October 2026. UK students pay in dollars too because there’s no pound pricing page. Here are the current plans and what each tier includes.

The student bundle text on the pricing page doesn’t state how many months of unlimited Qbank it includes. It literally reads “Unlimited Qbank for input months”, which looks like a placeholder. The Step 3 page describes $448 as a yearly membership plus 12 months of unlimited Qbank. From what we can tell, confirm the exact student-bundle Qbank term at checkout.

Two AMBOSS strengths are worth flagging. One Qbank upgrade unlocks every question set across USMLE, COMLEX and shelf exams, so you don’t buy separate packages per exam. The Knowledge app and its library work fully offline, which matters on wards where signal is patchy but you still need a reference.

None of these AMBOSS plans list spoken patient practice on the pricing page as of October 2026, so if you want to rehearse a patient history, use a simulator built for history taking.

What do 50 Qbank questions a month actually get you?

The AMBOSS base membership includes the full library and app clinical tools, plus a 50-question monthly Qbank limit, which the pricing page frames as "so you can test out the Qbank". For students deciding between plans, that cap defines what you can practise each month without a Qbank upgrade.

Fifty a month is 600 a year, set against a bank the student pricing page counts at 13,900+. Elsewhere on the same page it also says 11,000+ and 13,000+, so treat it as approximate size only. A sampler, not a prep plan.

The upgrade is billed separately, bought in monthly packages through your account. When an upgrade term ends you keep your membership and drop back to 50 questions a month automatically, no separate reactivation step.

That base tier suits someone who mainly wants to read and look things up using the AMBOSS library and those clinical tools, which work offline in the app, and who only needs a light question taster between placements or lectures.

What do UK students pay for AMBOSS?

UK medical students pay AMBOSS in US dollars. There is no pound pricing page: amboss.com/gb/pricing and amboss.com/uk/pricing both returned 404 on 20 October 2026. The international site shows the same dollar figures, with $19.99 monthly, $12.50 a month billed yearly, $448 for yearly membership plus Qbank, and $1,199 for Student Life.

Practically, the sterling amount on your statement depends on the GBP to USD rate and any foreign transaction fee your card applies on the day you pay. Check your card’s terms.

The international pricing page lists exams outside the US, including NEET-PG, IFOM, MCCQE and SMLE, but no UKMLA-specific pricing. It also flags discounts for student groups, with larger groups getting a higher discount, so a med school society might ask. See the international pricing page.

If you’re a UK finals student weighing AMBOSS against a UK-priced bank, start with AMBOSS or PassMedicine for finals.

AMBOSS free trial and refund terms

AMBOSS offers no free tier, but it does provide a 5 day free trial and a 30 day money back guarantee on purchases made directly through AMBOSS. Plans auto renew unless cancelled. You can cancel any time in account settings, and refund requests must be sent within the first 30 days of purchase.

  1. Use your trial days on the Qbank sampler and the library to see if the content fits your study plan.
  2. Decide before the 5 days end whether you want to subscribe or walk away.
  3. If you buy and change your mind, forward your payment receipt to refund@amboss.com within 30 days to request a full refund.
  4. If you cancel a paid plan, do it in account settings. You’ll keep access until the end of the current billing period.

Refunds are only provided for purchases made directly through AMBOSS, so a purchase through an app store or another route isn’t covered by that promise.

Is AMBOSS worth it for you?

AMBOSS is worth paying for if you’ll use its physician-written library daily and you need a large US-style question bank, ideally via the membership plus Qbank bundle. It’s poor value if you only want UK finals or UKMLA AKT questions, or if you want to practise talking to patients, which its pricing page doesn’t list as a feature (as of October 2026).

Pay for it if you’re a US student or IMG preparing for Step 1, Step 2 CK, Step 3 or COMLEX and you’ll actually use the library plus unlimited Qbank bundle. The library is deep and written by physicians, and the Knowledge app works fully offline. One practical perk, one Qbank upgrade unlocks all question sets across USMLE, COMLEX and shelves.

Think twice if you’d stick with the base membership’s 50 questions a month for exam prep, which AMBOSS itself frames as a way to test the Qbank rather than live in it. Or if you’re a UK student who mostly needs UKMLA AKT questions, where a US-oriented bank may feel mismatched. If you’re comparing banks for US prep, see our guide to cheaper UWorld alternatives.

Look elsewhere if what you need is history-taking out loud and being held to your clinical reasoning in conversation. That’s a different job than a reading library or MCQ bank.

Diagnosica is an AI clinical simulator for medical students and junior doctors: you take a history from an AI patient by voice or text, order labs and imaging, commit to a diagnosis and management plan, and get a competency scorecard. The patient appears as a video avatar, it’s free to start with no card needed, and there are apps on iPhone and Android plus the web app. It’s built for learners worldwide, not only in the US. It isn’t a question bank or a library, so it won’t replace AMBOSS for reading or MCQs, and it doesn’t teach physical examination. For other study picks, here’s a concise medical student AI toolkit.

Cheaper or free alternatives to AMBOSS

AMBOSS bills in US dollars and, if that or the total cost puts you off, several UK-priced or free options cover parts of what AMBOSS does. Prices below are as of October 2026 from each product's own page. None is the same bundle, so match the tool to your exam and station type.

PassMedicine's finals and UKMLA package costs £15 for 4 months, £20 for 6 months, £25 for 9 months, and £30 for 12 months, as of October 2026. The package includes an OSCE resource and PSA questions, per PassMedicine's finals package.

Quesmed lists Clinical and MLA AKT Qbank at £39.99 a year, an OSCE and MLA CPSA Bank at £39.99 a year, and an AKT and CPSA Bundle at £59.99 a year, as of October 2026. The page also states 11,000+ clinical questions and offers a demo, see Quesmed's MLA plans.

Geeky Medics has a free plan with 50 OSCE stations and clinical, anatomy and basic science question banks, no payment required, as of October 2026. Its Everything plan is £69.99 a year, see Geeky Medics free plan.

Anki offers the desktop version and AnkiDroid for Android free, with AnkiWeb sync free, as of October 2026. The official iOS app is paid, see Anki's desktop app.

Common questions

Does AMBOSS have a free plan?

AMBOSS lists no ongoing free plan, but it offers a 5-day free trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee on purchases made directly through AMBOSS. You can cancel in account settings at any time, and you keep access until the end of the billing period. There’s no permanent free tier listed, so after the trial you’re on a paid membership unless you cancel.

Is AMBOSS cheaper if you pay yearly?

AMBOSS is cheaper if you pay yearly, at $12.50 a month billed yearly versus $19.99 billed monthly. The pricing page says you save $89.88 compared with paying the monthly rate for 12 months, with about $150 taken up front. Both options include unlimited library access and the same 50 Qbank questions a month, so the content allowance is identical between them.

Can you pay for AMBOSS in pounds?

AMBOSS lists prices in US dollars, and there is no UK pricing page as of 20 October 2026. If you’re in the UK, you’ll be charged in USD, your card provider converts at its exchange rate, and any foreign transaction fees from your bank or card apply. The international pricing page shows the same dollar figures with no pound prices published.

What happens when the AMBOSS Qbank upgrade expires?

AMBOSS says that when your Qbank upgrade expires, your membership continues and you revert to the base limit of 50 questions a month. You can buy Qbank upgrades again in monthly packages when needed, and once an upgrade ends you keep the membership benefits. One upgrade unlocks all question sets across exams, so you don’t need separate Qbank purchases for USMLE, COMLEX or shelf.

Practise the conversation side AMBOSS covers reading and questions; for spoken history practice, Diagnosica lets you talk to a video AI patient, order investigations, commit to a diagnosis and plan, and get a scorecard. It’s free to start, no card needed. Start a free case
